Fastest way to hire

Transfer maids in Singapore

Already in Singapore, ready sooner, and easy to meet before you decide. A transfer maid is often the quickest way to get reliable help at home.

What is a transfer maid?

A transfer maid is a domestic helper who is already working in Singapore and is moving from one employer to another, rather than returning to her home country. Because she is already here, the hiring process skips overseas recruitment, flights and much of the waiting. Both the current employer and the new employer need to agree to the transfer before the Work Permit can be processed.

For many families, a transfer is the practical middle ground: you get someone with real Singapore experience, you can meet her before committing, and she can usually start within a few weeks.

Why families choose a transfer maid

A transfer maid suits households that need help sooner rather than later, or that would rather hire someone with a track record they can check.

  • Faster to start. No overseas recruitment or flight means a shorter timeline, often 1 to 3 weeks.
  • Local experience. She already understands Singapore homes, HDB and condo living, and local expectations.
  • You can verify. Meet her in person or by video call and check references from her current or previous employer.
  • Lower upfront cost. Skipping the air ticket and overseas processing usually keeps initial costs down.
Not sure a transfer is right for you? If you prefer to train a helper from scratch, or you want the lowest starting salary, a fresh maid may fit better. Tell us your priorities and we will point you the right way.

How the transfer process works

We coordinate the handover between the outgoing and incoming employer and handle the MOM paperwork so the timeline stays clear.

  1. Shortlist and interview. We put forward transfer candidates that fit your needs. You meet them and check references.
  2. Both employers agree. The current employer consents to the transfer and the release date is confirmed.
  3. Work Permit application. We apply for the new Work Permit and wait for In-Principle Approval (IPA) from MOM.
  4. Insurance and security bond. Medical and personal accident insurance and the $5,000 security bond are put in place before she starts.
  5. Permit issued and she arrives. Once the permit is issued, we accompany her to your home, ready to begin.

Transfer maid vs fresh maid

The right choice depends on how quickly you need help and whether you would rather train someone yourself.

Who a transfer maid suits best

Consider a transfer maid if you need help within a few weeks, you want someone who already knows how a Singapore household runs, or you would like to interview and check references before deciding. Families managing a new baby, an elderly parent, or a sudden gap in help often prefer transfers for the speed.

Transfer Maid FAQs

How long does it take to hire a transfer maid?
Usually about 1 to 3 weeks once both employers agree, the Work Permit is approved, and insurance and the security bond are in place. It is generally faster than recruiting a fresh helper from overseas.
Is a transfer maid cheaper than a fresh maid?
Upfront costs are often lower because there is no air ticket or overseas processing. That said, an experienced transfer helper may expect a higher monthly salary. Government costs like the levy, security bond and insurance are the same for both.
Do I need the current employer's consent?
Yes. Both the current and new employer must agree to the transfer before the Work Permit can be processed. We coordinate the handover so the dates are clear for everyone.
Can I interview her before deciding?
Yes. You can meet a transfer maid in person or by video call, ask about her experience, and check references before you commit.
